2018 Men’s and Women’s application.

2018 Best In The Bush application

2018 Youth and teens application

Historically, logging has been the prime resource based industry for the coastal areas of
British Columbia.  From the days of hand logging, bulls, horses and steam machinery, to today’s use of grapple yarders, self loaders and helicopters, the industry has seen many changes.  Throughout these changes, the one thing that has remained constant, is the loggers getting together to show off their skills in friendly competitions.

Today, nearly every major logging community has these competitions, which have become known as “Loggers Sports“ and Campbell River is no exception.  Since Campbell River is the major center for the logging industry on Northern Vancouver Island and the many coastal islands and inlets, it is only natural that Logging Sports Competitions became a major event in the community.

Logging Sports are not just competitions amongst loggers, but they provide the opportunity to depict the heritage of the North Island by incorporating entertaining events that show both past and present logging practices.  Events like axe throwing, tree climbing, spring board chops, log rolling, hand bucking and high speed power saw cutting never cease to amaze the crowds at these competitions

In fact, Logging Sports has become so popular in Campbell River that TSN has aired our 2000, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012 & 2014 Logger Sports and 2017 is being airedby a number of North American Station.  Our 2011, 2012 and 2014 Competitions have been posted on YouTube plus Local and Provincial TV stations routinely cover our Logger Sports on their news and sports broadcasts.  During the last 10 years we have hosted the “Canadian East West Logging Sports Challenge” and the STIHL Canadian Championships plus we were selected by Dutch TV in 2014 to be one of the sites for their reality show “Ruben & Geraldine”

For 2018, the Salmon Festival proposes to present 3 World Championship and 8 Canadian Championships, along with 55 other men’s Open, Intermediate & Novice, ladies Open & Novice, plus Youth and Teen events.  International and local loggers will be competing for part of the $41,875.00 prize package at this World Class Loggers Sports Competition.  On Friday evening we host three competition “The Best In The Bush  for local teams of 4 persons competing in 4 events. (Axe Throwing, Power Saw Bucking, Choker Racing and Double Hand Saw Bucking), the Youth Competitions for 8-11  year old boys and girls and the Teen Competitions for the 12 to 15 year old boys and girls.

For many years our show has been one of the largest Logging Sports Competition in Canada (prize package and number of events) and is now ranked in the top 5 in North America.  It is definitely one event you don’t want to miss, whether you are a competitor or spectator.
